Optical Construction
The Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED uses an optical formula of 14 elements in 9 groups, including two Extra-low Dispersion (ED) elements and three aspherical elements to control chromatic aberration and distortion across the zoom range. Nikon’s Super Integrated Coating suppresses flare and ghosting to maintain contrast in backlit conditions. Build Quality and Handling

Construction pairs a metal lens mount with a high-grade plastic barrel, and a rubber seal around the mount provides a degree of protection against dust and moisture at that connection point — though Nikon does not market this lens as fully weather-sealed. The zoom ring is wide with a rubberized grip, and zoom creep has not been reported as an issue. Filter thread is 77mm, and the lens is built on Nikon’s F-mount for DX-format bodies.
Image Quality
Independent testing shows excellent centre sharpness at 10mm, even wide open, holding up well toward the edges of the frame. Some softness appears in the far corners at maximum aperture across the zoom range, but this clears up by around f/5.6-f/8. Vignetting is low for an ultra-wide lens. At 24mm, centre sharpness remains excellent but edge quality drops off more noticeably, again improving significantly when stopped down. Some flare can occur when shooting into direct light, which is typical for lenses in this class.
